Downloaders have a bad reputation, and most of them earned it. Here is what this one leaves out.

Is this a subscription?

Which sites does it support?
Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok, Vimeo, Twitch, and more — it recognises the link you paste and takes it from there. YouTube isn't supported yet.
Is there anything else I need to install?
No. One file to install, then open it and you're ready. Nothing else to add, and nothing you have to keep up to date by hand.
Is my data private?
Yes. Everything happens on your own computer. There's no account, nothing tracked, and no server of ours in between — your logins and your files stay with you.
What am I allowed to download?
Content you have the right to keep — your own posts, accounts you manage, or material you have permission to save. You're responsible for following the terms of the platforms you connect and applicable copyright law. See our Terms of Use.
Does macOS block the app on first launch?
Yes, on the first launch, and it is expected: the app is not yet signed with an Apple Developer ID, so macOS says it “could not verify” it. The dialog only offers OK — there is no “open anyway” button on it. Dismiss it, then open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom, and click “Open Anyway” next to Social Media Downloader. You need this once. On macOS 14 and earlier, right-click the app → Open instead.
What are the system requirements?
macOS 10.15 Catalina or newer, or Windows 10 or newer on 64-bit or ARM. Around 400 MB of disk space for the app, plus room for whatever you download.
